Surprises during fermentation…

I stepped into the brewing room the other day to check on our latest batches of fermenting wort, and what did I see but a blown top. How the hell did that happen?? I couldn’t even find whatever it was that was supposed to be in the bung hole (heh heh) — Peter had set these up the night before and I missed out on the final situation. Obviously, the double red was bubbling along rather furiously, and blew the airlock. The force was so much that the airlock actually hit the ceiling (see below) and left quite a few splatter marks along several boxes and, of course, the floor. Oops. Should have used tubing like the rest. Oh well, it’s still releasing a wee bit of CO2, so we should be okay. Can’t wait to get this one kegged up! It’s dry hopping now with Nelson Sauvin and should be ready for racking any day!
